Some Thoughts About Travel

A lot of people think about travel, I know I do, I think about travel constantly. I think most people think about it as much as I do or more. Most people work so much and have so much going on with Career, Family, Kids, and just life in general, their not able to go anywhere, except for short trips one or two days a week or month. Actually most let themselves get tied up with the old ball and chain called work, and think they cant or don't have the time. Most companies allocate at least a vacation once a year to their employees and they also allocate so much leave time in the form of sick and vacation usually monthly. But overall most companies will allocate at least a one or two week vacation once per year.

I tell people that if you want to travel just plan ahead for it and save back some money. While your at work your most likely going to hear about somebody that had went somewhere really cool on their vacation, or somebody else that went somewhere really cool for a couple days over the weekend. Then you have those that never go anywhere, and one of those somebody's could be you. So if you want to travel, whether it be an overnight or a week or two long excursion. Just step up and say to yourself, I'm going to do this. So here's what you do.

Start out slow if you want and plan a day trip to a Zoo or Museum or anywhere else. I think you'll find that after a couple of times of going on day trips you'll start getting the travel bug and you'll want to do more and longer trips. Just start setting aside a few dollars out of each paycheck and you might find yourself spending less during the week and at work so you'll have more money to to travel on.  Here are some ideas for you to think about that I've done.

(One of my favorite road trips was to the Florida Everglades where we brought along our camping gear and bicycles. We stayed in a KOA camping cabin in Naples that we used for a base camp. In the afternoons we'd drive around and check out the local area. One day we took highway 41 through the Everglades and toured other areas of south Florida. had a really good time, all on a very small budget.)

(Travel can be as expensive or as inexpensive as you choose to make it. If you live like a local once you get there. For example, bring along a cooler and go to the grocery store, instead of dining out 3 times a day, go for the slow and authentic experience rather than flashy hotels and bungee jumping every day, it costs a lot less)

Freedom or Servitude | Which will it be for you?

I'm convinced there is something deeply wrong with most people today. They are bored, unfulfilled, and out of touch with reality. Their freedom relinquished for the security of a steady paycheck and a one hour or more commute to a dead end job. Their imagination and creativity anesthetized by television, online addiction and celebrity worship. With that they are bombarded with advertising and endorsements for products that in reality they don't need.

In this post World War II era of the rural electrification program. The federal government's road building programs, and the war on poverty campaign of the 1960's. We are now living in the so-called digital age of internet, GPS and smartphones.

With all the how to books and websites out there about survival, off grid, mobile living, and homesteading. For that segment of the population this blog has been written as a guide to help broaden their horizons and take that first step on the road to free and independent living.

Some folks have began to ask themselves these questions. Where is my money going?

Why do I have so many bills?
Why do I have to live here?
Do I really need all this stuff?

The answer is simple!

You don't need all those bills that go along with having the things that we think are necessary. That in reality are just holding us down. To be able to have all those things you will need to make money. Which means having to work at a job you don't like. All these things we think we can't live life without. We can do without.

So ask yourself these questions while your sitting in your office cubicle, or working that 12 hour day at the factory rushing to get that time card clocked. Or those of you that have any number of different types of jobs. And always seeing the money you make go down that drain called paying bills.

Why am I beholding to an employer that doesn't care about me?
Why do I have to work here?
Why do I have to live here?
Why do I have to spend all the money I make every time I get paid?

How can I get out of this endless circle of working, getting paid, handing my money to someone else?

Whether you want to believe it or not. You are dependent! You are a slave to the money economy! You are so dependent that you have to have physical money in order to purchase the things you think you have to have. So basically in order to get money you have to give yourself to an employer that really doesn't care about you. You sell your labor to them in order for them to pay you money. That in turn you hand over to pay bills and buy things you think you need.

An entire generation has grown up not knowing any other way to live. They live in a disposable throw it away, buy another one society. All they basically know is to trade dollars that they get working at a job for the things they've been taught since childhood they need, e.g. food, fuel, services, utilities, housing, rent, vehicle insurance, phone, internet and so on.

Is this really what you want out of life! Working at a boring job for wages. For an employer that doesn't care about you. Putting up with stupid supervisors, Backstabbing co-workers, and living from paycheck to paycheck. Or for some, living on a retirement pension or social security. Still, it's all the same. You take the money you work for at your dead end job, and trade it for things. Come on, that's not freedom, it's nothing but pure dependence.

By now, you should see where i'm going with this. In this blog I'm going to give you ideas on how to live free, off grid, and independent of the demands of today's societal norms without a job and very little money. Although I want you to know this. Unless you really want to live without some of today's conveniences, to live on your own terms, and to be as independent as possible. Then these ideas are not for you. Just stay with what your comfortable with. Working for that paycheck that evaporates a few days after you get it.

I see you have read this far. So I take it, I've got your attention. Whether you're interested in Homesteading or Mobile Living. I want you to know you have an alternative to the current life your living.
